ROCK THAT DENIM CAMPAIGN

The fashion world has always been dominated by some form of denim vibe and it can be said that denim is one piece of clothing that almost everyone in the world owns a pair or two of. Denims have caused so much wave and one current trend which is back on the fashion scene is the denim on denim trend.

A motion clip of the denim on denim episode with Annette, Funmi & Gerrie speaking about stereotypes they face.

The first episode of the Rock That Denim Campaign captured two prominent African Fashionistas Funmi Ogunja & Annette Boateng. They both have their own style and represent a different kind of African woman and no they are not ready to embrace any stereotypes about how the typical African woman should dress or think about style. Their clothing choices for the rock that denim campaign were completely different but slightly similar in the sense that they coincidentally both had almost similar hairstyles (but in different colors). Also, their ripped jeans came in different forms and their winter jackets although the same shades were in different styles. The coming together of these ladies was very beautiful and it really showed that style should not be singular. They also talked about stereotypes which they have been affiliated with and how they are able to walk on strong in the midst of assumptions that are likely to cripple the dreams of a fashionista. Also, the video session from this episode shall be uploaded soon...

ANNA BOATENG
Annette Boateng is an African lady from Ghana and is the Editor for the fashion blog called www.annette-hothappenings.co.uk.
ANNA AND STEREOTYPES SHE HAS BEEN AFFILIATED WITH
Just like every fashionista she has been associated with stereotypes which classify her body structure as athletic meaning that she has a certain body structure and should not be allowed to rock certain trends or fashion pieces.
ANNA'S RESPONSE TO THE WRONG LABELING
She has not allowed this to deter her from reaching her goals and instead she rocks pieces that people say athletic females cant rock in her own way.  Her zeal and courage to forge ahead is something to admire because most times most ladies are held hostage to the wrong labels people ascribe to them. Her legs are her assets and she struts them with confidence regardless of what may have been said because confidence is a key element in having true style.Annette definitely likes to stand out and she broke the stereotype on this campaign concerning how to rock denim on denim. For I had no prior knowledge that a tie-dye denim shirt existed and she rocked this with a white pair of denim pants.

A woman who walks tall and with the understanding of her self worth will seat amongst high people.

FUNMI OGUNJA
Funmi Ogunja is an African lady from Nigeria who writes for her style & lifestyle website called www.funmiogunja.com. She is also a presenter and a beauty enthusiast.
FUNMI & STEREOTYPES SHE HAS BEEN AFFILIATED WITH
Like most females she has been described as not tall on several occasions and not model size thin. This however has not prevented her from embracing her curves and tapping into the beautiful assets she possesses such as a wonderful personality and a calm spirit. She has been told on several occasions to always be seen in heels considering that she is not very tall but she believes most times comfort should be permitted in fashion and she does not always have to be seen in a pair of heels.
FUNMI'S RESPONSE TO THE WRONG LABELING
Funmi has gotten to a point where her self perception is truly the most important opinion. She wears heels when she wants to and switches to heels when she wishes to. Being tied to the opinion of the fashion world is not something she is ready to do and her principles make her happy. Also, she believes that it is only right for a woman to be calm and humble for being aggressive is not attractive. Most females are of the opinion that dressing up is all that matters and that is also another stereotype which should be broken. This is because beauty comes from within and not from the designer pieces or fancy pieces one may have in their wardrobes.

She rocked the denim on denim trend in her own way which I could describe as warm but still elegant. Her winter coat was really beautiful and obviously is good value for her money.

It was burst of joy and excitement working with these ladies and the shoot got even better when they came together to chat whilst I photographed them candidly.

ROCK THAT DENIM CAMPAIGN QUOTES
"It is only right that every woman acts humble & calm for being arrogant or aggressive is so not attractive" - Funmi Ogunja

" I have been told that I have an athletic figure and so I am not allowed to rock certain pieces, but instead I now would pick pieces I love to wear" - Annette Boateng

The campaign continues and I look forward to showcasing more groups of people who are affiliated with wrong stereotypes. Rock That Denim in your own way and dont let anyone tell set the standards for your life.
